We had our hospital tour on Monday night and that went really well. It was good to actually see everything that I am going to be experiencing in a couple of months. I think it made me feel better about everything just seeing where it's all gonna go down. We walked around through the lobby and receptionist desk where we'll have to check in and then up to the 2nd floor where triag is. This is where you go if you think you're in labor to get checked out. If they determine you are in labor they send you to the labor and delivery room for the duration. Then 1 1/2 hours after you give birth they transfer you to postpartum where you recover and stay for 2 days. The hospital was very nice and they have DVD players and CD players in all the rooms. I think Neil enjoyed seeing everything too and was starting to get excited!
I am definitely eating more and growing out of my clothes too fast now!
Neil and I are getting ready for vacation in a week so we are looking forward to that. Just a last chance to really get away with just the two of us(and some friends) and just relax before the chaos of the season and having the baby hits!

Out of nowhere!
So, we had our second class on Monday evening. It was a good class that we started out with a video. We were learning more about the birthing experience and the video was showing from a diagram what dialation looks like and effacing. Then BOOM! out of nowhere comes a live birth and then pushing out the placenta! They don't warn you at all that the real thing is coming. The birth of the baby wasn't so bad but the placenta part was nasty!! I had never seen that so it was quite shocking, but good to know I guess. That part of the video was only like 30-40 seconds long but it felt like an eternity. Anyway, I'm glad to know all of that I guess, I'll only be more prepared.
Next week will be Neil and I's last class because we are going to be out of town on vacation during the real last one. We get a tour of the hospital and labor rooms so that will be nice. I'm not as excited to see all of that as probably most people because I've already seen it all! For my job I have to do hospital visits and I go to see a lot of newborn babies. Many of them are born at Women's Hospital so I've had to go there many times. I also make sure each time I do those visits that I ask as many questions as I can get away with to prepare myself. It's fun that I get paid to learn about childbirth!

Paint!
Well, Saturday Neil and I picked up paint for the baby's room. I am so excited to start on it, but we've got so much work to do before we get that done! We started cleaning out the bedroom as well on Friday but realized that there are a couple of other things we need to do before we can clean out the bedroom. Since most of the stuff in the bedroom closet is going to go in the spare bedroom closet, we have to clean that closet out as well. Then, we also need to get up in the attic and organize a bit so we can put a few more things up there. So, while we started cleaning out the rooms, we've got way more to do now than we did when we started! It's a big process but I'll be glad to get some organization done up there. Then when the room is cleaned out we can start painting and things will start falling into place! We also went with my parents yesterday and picked out the dresser for the bedroom that we think we want. We didn't purchase yet because we just want to look around a tad more to see if there's any other ones we like better. But at least we have in mind the one we think we want! It's exactly what I was hoping for and there's a matching bookshelf as well so we may end up getting that too, who knows? Well, that's all the updates for now, we have class tonight so I'll post more on that tomorrow and also post pics of the room once it's painted.

Dr.'s Appt.
So I had another Dr.'s Appt. today. Everything was great, praise the Lord! She started measuring me for the first time today to make sure everything is growing properly and she said I'm right where I need to be. I got to hear the heartbeat and it sounds healthy and strong!
Next time I go to the Dr. I have to have the gluecose test done to make sure I don't have gestational diabetes. This is routine for everyone at about 28 weeks. Then I start going to the Dr. every 2 weeks after that which will be crazy! Well, that's about it for the update this visit.

1st night of fun
Okay, so last night was our first night of childbirth classes. It turned out to be a really good class and I think they are going to be interesting. We had kind of an orientation last night and really didn't get into too much nitty gritty yet. The instructor was really nice and helpful. We basically just learned about anatomy and looked at some pictures of a pre-pregnancy body(on the inside) and then some pics of the body when pregnant. No wonder I have to pee all the time and I have shortness of breath more than usual! Everything is squished and moved and pushed up or down.
We worked on some breathing exercies and some stretches for relaxation. Then she showed the guys how to massage the women's back to help soothe sore spots and just help to relax. That was really nice! Neil did a great job knowing just how much pressure to use or how light to rub. I think he had a good time for the first night.
There were about 15 other couples in the class with us, one of them is dues on Sept. 29th and one is due on Dec. 28th so that's the span of when the births in the class will be taking place. It was kinda neat to be in a place with a bunch of other people who are experiencing the same things you are. There's one person who is due 6 days before me.

Back to School?
Well, the time has begun in the process of our pregnancy to start taking classes to prepare us for the birth of our son. The hospital offers so many choices but we just wanted to take the basics. Neil was less than thrilled about my requesting him to be at all of them with me but he came around and decided it was probably a good idea for him to learn about all of these things with me. So, the classes we signed up for were:
1)Childbirth preparation- beginnging Aug. 13th and going for 4 weeks
2)Breastfeeding Basics- a one time class on Oct. 9th
3)Babywise class- led by a good friend here at church, it's a class that will teach us about scheduling, Biblical parenting, and what it will be like the first couple of months being new parents. We have not scheduled the dates for these yet but it's a 6 week class.
4)Just had kind of my first class last night at a friend's house. She had wanted to take an infant CPR class just to learn about what to do in case her own children were choking or were unresponsive. Well, if you've ever taken them, they can be costly and awkward. You have to practice on pretend babies in front of people you don't know. So, Jill checked into it and ended up purchasing her own CPR kit that came with a blow-up baby doll and a paper phone(to dial 911 of course, you know most people don't have their own phones to use!). She decided to make it into kind of a fun night even though it was informational and have other moms or soon to be moms over to learn this as well so that we can be better prepared to care for our children, God-forbid something like that would ever happen to any of our kids. We had a really fun time and learned a lot as well. There were 4 of us total who went and the other 3 of them all already have at least one child. So, at the end of the CPR session, they decided to all educate me on "things you don't read in books and your Dr. doesn't tell you". It was pretty comical and we all ended up laughing so hard we were crying. The best was when one of them would get up to demonstrate something and would act out what they were saying. We were pretty much talking about the "aftermath" of childbirth. So I learned a lot last night, but not all about CPR! Thanks girls!
